Our work in wearable product design spans a wide range of applications—from safety gear to adaptive garments, from emergency preparedness kits to soft goods for infants. We specialize in creating wearables that respond to the needs of real people in motion. With deep expertise in soft goods wearables and integrated hard/soft systems, our team designs ergonomic, comfortable, and intuitive products that move with the body. Whether developing wearable technology, body-worn accessories, or functional apparel, we bring a user-centered approach to every project, blending technical patterning, material innovation, and human factors research to deliver truly wearable solutions.
Wearables
Industrial / Commercial
Our industrial and commercial work focuses on B2B solutions that integrate wearable systems, soft goods, and ergonomic design for high-performance environments. We design products that support physically demanding tasks, enhance human capability, and meet the complex requirements of sectors such as logistics, manufacturing, defense, and aerospace. With a deep understanding of how materials interact with the body, tools, and machines, we create solutions that improve safety, reduce fatigue, and optimize performance in real-world conditions.
Medical
Our medical design work focuses on wearable health product design that supports both clinical performance and patient comfort. We specialize in medical wearables that integrate sensors, electronics, and soft goods to deliver ergonomic, body-conforming solutions for real-world healthcare needs. From wearable cooling systems to rehabilitation exosuits, we collaborate closely with researchers, clinicians, and users to design devices that improve outcomes while remaining easy to wear and operate. With a deep understanding of usability, anatomy, and materials, we create medical wearable designs that meet the rigorous demands of testing, compliance, and extended daily use.
Sports
We design high-performance products for athletes, active lifestyles, and movement-focused environments. With decades of experience in the performance apparel and sporting goods industry—including work with leading global brands—we create products that balance technical innovation, comfort, and durability. Our expertise spans athletic soft goods, wearable gear, and body-focused systems designed to move with the user. Whether it’s training, recovery, or competition, we develop solutions that optimize fit, function, and performance—on the field, in the studio, or out in the world.
Consumer Products
With over 25 years of experience designing activewear and performance products for global brands, we bring a deep understanding of what makes consumer products succeed in the marketplace. Our approach blends form, function, and manufacturability to create body-centered products that people use and love every day. From lifestyle and wellness gear to parenting and travel accessories, we apply the same design rigor to consumer goods that we brought to major brands in the athletic space. Every product we design is grounded in real-world use, intuitive interaction, and a clear path to commercialization.
Aerospace
Our aerospace work includes collaborations with NASA on wearable technology, mission-critical storage, soft goods packaging, and advanced research into extraterrestrial living systems. From designing wearable systems for astronaut training and in-flight use, to prototyping deployable storage solutions, we’ve contributed to human-centered design efforts that support space exploration. We’ve also participated in research on additive manufacturing for off-world habitats—investigating how 3D printing can support sustainable living on the Moon and Mars. These projects blend industrial design with systems thinking, ergonomic insight, and material innovation to help shape the future of human life beyond Earth.
Smart Textiles
Our work in smart textiles merges design, technology, and materials to create responsive, sensor-integrated fabrics for real-world applications. From early explorations in illuminated knit structures to current research on e-textile systems, we specialize in developing products that use textiles that communicate, sense, and adapt. With a background that spans industrial design, wearable technology, and soft goods innovation, we bring a research-driven approach to the design and integration of smart textiles for healthcare, defense, and everyday use.
Design Education
This collection highlights a few student projects developed in the studio design courses Rebeccah Pailes-Friedman teaches at Pratt Institute, with a focus on wearable technology, soft goods design, mobility solutions, and consumer product design. Many of these works stem from interdisciplinary research and MID thesis investigations, where students explore emerging technologies, user-centered design methods, and material innovation. From speculative wearables to functional prototypes, these projects reflect a deep engagement with real-world challenges, critical inquiry, and design as a tool for impact.
Work Portfolio
At Interwoven Design, our work spans industries and design disciplines—always centered around the human body and how it moves. We specialize in soft goods product design and ergonomic wearable technology, developing user-centered prototypes across healthcare and medical devices, sports and performance gear, industrial and commercial applications, and consumer products. Our expertise includes wearable health products, smart textiles, exosuits, and advanced soft goods for aerospace and outdoor use. We also design packaging solutions that complement and protect these innovations. In addition to client collaborations, we actively contribute to the design community through education, public speaking, and thought leadership in wearable technology and design for the future.
